How large can the security deposit be?
Under section 12 of the Residential Tenancy Law, the security deposit (drošības nauda) may not exceed two months of rent.
For what term is a tenancy agreement made?
A residential tenancy agreement is concluded for a fixed term (section 9 of the law). The parties state the term in the agreement.
Does the tenancy agreement have to be in writing?
Yes. The law states that the basis for using a dwelling is a written tenancy agreement — an oral arrangement does not protect the parties.
What must the agreement include?
